Delete account and data

You can delete your Swiva account at any time and you can also request the deletion of individual data without deleting your account. This page explains step by step how to request deletion, which data will be permanently removed, which data we keep in limited cases for security or legal reasons, and how long that takes.

Provider of this page

This guide applies to the Swiva app provided by Daniel Studera, Schröttergasse 41/4/5, 1100 Vienna, Austria. Contact for deletion and privacy requests: support@swiva.app.

Delete your account inside the app (recommended)

You can delete your account directly from within Swiva:

1. Open the Swiva app and sign in.

2. Tap your profile in the bottom right.

3. Open the settings.

4. Choose “Delete account” and follow the on-screen instructions.

You will be asked to confirm the action and, depending on your sign-in method, to enter a confirmation code sent to your email. Deletion is only triggered after confirmation.

Request deletion without app access (e.g. after uninstalling)

If you no longer have access to the app, you can request deletion by email to support@swiva.app. Please send the request, where possible, from the email address you used to register, with “Account deletion” as the subject.

We usually acknowledge receipt within a few days and generally process your request within one month. Technical deletion is carried out after successful identity verification and expiry of the grace period described below. If we have doubts about your identity, we may ask for additional information to prevent misuse.

What happens immediately after you start deletion

Your account is deactivated right away and set to the status “pending_deletion”. The request time and the scheduled deletion time are stored, all active sessions across all devices are revoked, and you are automatically signed out.

Your own lists are flagged so that they no longer appear in public surfaces such as Explore or via share links.

A 7-day grace period follows: if you sign in again during this time, deletion is cancelled and your account is fully reinstated. If you do not sign in, deletion is then carried out automatically and permanently.

Data that is permanently deleted

After the 7-day grace period, the following data is removed from our active systems:

Account data: email address, username, password hash, OAuth identifiers from Apple or Google where applicable, profile attributes (display name, short bio, pronouns, profile picture, profile interest and optional attributes such as age range, gender, region), language preference, interests, app settings and encrypted Apple refresh tokens.

Avatar: your uploaded profile picture is removed from the active profile; the related file is deleted from object storage where technically reachable.

Your own lists and activities: all lists you created and all activities within them, regardless of who originally contributed them. In addition, all activities you created inside other people's or shared lists.

Activity-related data: completion markers and swipe history, where they were created by you or relate to the activities deleted above.

Sharing and interaction data: share links for your deleted lists, your saves and likes on other people's lists, and saves/likes that others had placed on your deleted lists.

Editor references: your entry as an editor on other people's lists is removed from those lists; the lists themselves remain.

Security and session data: refresh sessions and action tokens (email verification, password reset, deletion codes) associated with your account.

Push notifications: all registered device records with Expo push token, device ID, platform, permission status, language, app version and project identifier.

Data we keep and why

Certain security- and platform-relevant data may be processed beyond account deletion in limited cases, to the extent this is necessary for platform security, the handling of reports or the fulfilment of legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c) and (f) GDPR).

Content reports: reports you filed or that were filed against you may continue to be stored so that moderation decisions remain auditable and repeat violations can be reviewed.

Moderation audit logs: records of moderation decisions are retained so that suspension, removal and appeal processes can be documented in a legally defensible manner.

Block relationships: if you had blocked other accounts or had been blocked by them, these records may continue to be stored as security and abuse-prevention evidence.

Transactional email jobs (e.g. verifications, confirmations): are removed under their own retention of usually 3 to 14 days.

In-app notifications and delivery records: are removed under their own retention of usually 30 days.

Server and security logs: technical events are routinely deleted no later than 30 days after creation unless there are concrete indications of misuse or security incidents.

Backups: for technical reasons, content may temporarily remain in backup copies. These are overwritten as part of backup rotation and are not used for other purposes.

Delete individual data without deleting your account

You can also request the deletion of individual data without deleting your account – for example profile attributes, your own content or other personal data. Send an email to support@swiva.app describing which data should be deleted. We review the request and delete the data, unless legal obligations, security reasons or the rights of other users prevent this.

Many items you can also remove yourself directly in the app: delete individual activities and lists, undo likes and saves, change or remove your avatar, edit profile attributes (e.g. display name, age range, gender, region, interests), unblock other users and sign out individual devices and sessions.

We usually acknowledge receipt of a request within a few days and generally process it within one month. Which data may still be retained in limited cases (security, moderation, legal obligations, backups) even after a partial deletion, and for how long, is described in the section “Data we keep and why”.

Effects on other users

After your saves and likes are removed, the counters on the affected third-party lists are recalculated so they stay accurate.

Content that other users had previously added from your lists to their own lists before deletion remains there as their independent content. We cannot recall those copies.

Caches and previews that contained your data are invalidated.

Sign in with Apple

If you had signed in with Apple, we also call Apple's revocation endpoint before final deletion. How long Swiva remains visible among linked apps in your Apple ID is controlled by Apple.

Your rights

In addition to deletion, you can request access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20) at any time. Please contact support@swiva.app.

Without prejudice to other remedies, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in Austria with the Data Protection Authority (dsb.gv.at).

More information on the processing of your data is available in our privacy policy at swiva.app/datenschutz.
